Shopping Lists for Frugal Celebrities this Shopping Season

by Chelsea Simmons

The holiday season can make everyone a little crazy, but some of us have a few more quirks during that time of the year than others. Mine in particular is rather unusual.

For a little background, I love to give presents. I honestly love giving them more than receiving them. And while I might not be alone in that sentiment, there is a characteristic of my gift-giving habit that is fairly unique and I find myself doing this often this time of year. Occasionally when watching a celebrity in a show or movie, ideas spring into my head of what I could get them if I was close to them. But when I came across this list on Coupons Inc of the most frugal celebrities, I found a challenge that I had to tackle.

It can be really hard to find something for the person that has everything, but it’s even more difficult if that person enjoys being frugal with money. Unfortunately, meaningful presents don’t always come with a small price tag. I couldn’t think of something for everyone, but there are gifts that even these penny-pinching celebrities could enjoy getting this upcoming holiday season.

In the article for Coupon Inc, Mariska Hargitay said, “I constantly worry about money. I make a lot now but I don’t feel that way because I was poor and had no money for a lot longer than I’ve had … I’m saving money to live on, for the future.”

A gift for this penny-pincher would be a bit more tricky if I wasn’t a fan of Law and Order SVU and the Food Network. For those that don’t know, Hargitay once appeared on an episode of the Barefoot Contessa. I’m sure she would loved a framed photo of her time on set with Ina Garten, as well as cook book of the recipes from the episode. Or, since the episode aired a while ago, she might enjoy some of the cooking gear from Garten’s line.

There is a specific time in the show where Hargitay is handed a pre-made dessert in a speciality dish, and she makes a joke about the ease that she (Hargitay) put it together just for the camera. She would probably enjoy a similar set of dessert cups to use herself! And just by using the discount code provided by signing up for Williams-Sonoma email updates, I could save a significant chunk of change on a product from Ina Garten’s product line.

Eva Longoria has made her love for sex toys fairly public over the years, even admitting to giving them out as birthday presents to her friends. However, she’s just as well known for being a frugal shopper. If she’s planning on adding to her toy drawer, products endorsed by other celebrities are one option. Seeing as to how well the Beats by Dre went over, though, she’d probably rather stick to quality products to ensure that they’ll last.

If I was a friend of Longoria’s, I’d opt for one of the new bluetooth activated products. Even better, frugally speaking, there are those offered at Adam & Eve, where they support the same sexual health beliefs that Longoria has advocated for in removing the stigma from sex toys. Not only that, but they have coupons to utilize for additional bonuses. What’s more of a turn on to a frugal person than saving money?

Another smart shopper is Carrie Underwood. She’s not shy about her humble beginnings, when she worked on her parents’ farm, and how they influenced her lifestyle now—even with her millions.

So what would this country star be searching for during the shopping season? Most people might not know that Underwood is actual a very strong activist for animal welfare, which is the major reason that she chooses to be vegan. I would get her a Vegan Snack Box subscription. Seven to 10 vegan-friendly snacks are compiled in a box that would arrive at her doorstop each month. I can even save money on the gift by ordering longer subscriptions while she can feel good knowing the gift supports a company that shares her ethics.

It just goes to show that with a little thought, even the people who are seemingly difficult to please or “have everything” can still receive a meaningful gift. If I can come up with presents for people I’ve never met before, you can surely think of something to give your stubborn, frugal love one this holiday season. Say it with me: No more gift cards!
